Full Job Description

The Bindery Press Operator will be responsible for producing and shipping innovative, high quality photographic printed products using various methods, machinery and techniques throughout the production facility. Responsibilities will include production and inspection of all orders, adjusting or setting machines for quality levels, and helping to establish production processes in accordance with quality standards. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with minimal supervision while being able to assess when to escalate complex matters to the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Operate and adjust printing equipment ensuring maximum operating efficiency and in line with specified quality standards
  • Manage inventory related to specific equipment and notify supervisor of needs to meet shift production schedule
  • Perform preventative maintenance of assigned equipment (i.e. proper cleaning, change overs, approved corrective adjustments to machine/equipment)
  • Perform quality checks of products, equipment and materials. Diagnose causes of print and process defects. Make adjustments and machine corrections to bring products into specification (eg., reviewing and assessing product defects or equipment malfunctions such as print alignment)
  • Recognize and report to supervisor any unusual conditions or defective equipment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly staging area; set a good example for other employees in workplace organization and cleanliness
  • Observe all safety rules, precautions, and practices to ensure the safety of self and others
  • Must be flexible to work variable shifts, as needed


Qualification Requirements

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience working within a manufacturing environment as a machine or production equipment operator
  • Printing or bindery experience preferred
  • Photography or art education or experience a bonus

Skills:

  • Computer operation
  • Equipment/Machinery operation and adjustment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to follow directions
  • Knowledgeable and able to follow lean manufacturing concepts
  • Able to use office management software (e.g., Google docs, MS Office)

Licensures, Certifications: Certification for specific machinery if assigned to the running of that machine

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Scope of Responsibility: Local role that may interact with other production department teams and/or Customer Service. May work on a staggered schedule or alternate shift to ensure adequate department coverage.

Contacts: Significant interaction with other team members, and possible interaction with other teams within the production department and Customer Service.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to stand for the duration of shift.

Working Conditions: Climate controlled. Some equipment noise.
