Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, the Postal Services Processor will support basic campus postal needs by providing all aspects of mail services on a daily basis. The incumbent will serve as a Parcel Post Person and Letter Carrier in the delivery of all classes of mail on an assigned route to departments and living quarters on the UMBC campus.

Specific duties include: sending and receiving of USPS and intercampus mail; loading and unloading vehicles; interacting with and delivering campus mail from USPS; collecting, sorting, and distributing campus mail; determining and affixing postage; maintaining records on postage, registered mail and packages; providing specialized services upon request; counseling customers on mailing alternatives and providing instructions on correct procedures; determining weather conditions for delivery of mail to campus locations; providing backup service for mail staff counter when necessary; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED
  • One year of related work experience
  • A valid Maryland non-commercial Class C or equivalent license
  • Ability to safely handle, lift and carry bulky items up to 70 pounds in weight
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience working in a college/university mail room or package delivery company/service
  • General understanding and knowledge of USPS postal rules and regulations
