Schedule:
This is a full time position working 40 hours a week. All library Technical Services staff may be required to work evenings, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year as a part of the normal work schedule.

Job Summary:
  • Creates MARC bibliographic records for print and non-print materials using Dewey Decimal and local call number schemes as well as Library of Congress subject headings.
  • Searches databases such as OCLC as well as vendor websites for existing descriptive metadata.
  • Corrects, edits and enhances existing metadata according to local and national cataloging and metadata standards, including authority control of database access points. Familiarity with MarcEdit is desirable.
  • Creates original cataloging records when existing metadata cannot be found.
  • Pre-catalogs materials in advance of arrival to assist in production goals of Technical Services.
  • Helps to maintain foreign language collections such as Korean, Russian, and Spanish.
  • Maintains digital historical collection and responds to customers queries.
  • Provides system-wide support by trouble-shooting access and indexing problems and answering bibliographic data questions from staff through branch problem reports.
  • Understands and implements departmental and system policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and successful completion of the Library Associates Training Institute or MLS from an ALA accredited school within two years of date of hire.
  • Knowledge of Cataloging and Classification acquired through one year of library experience.
  • Familiarity with MARC tags, Dewey Decimal call number scheme, Library of Congress subject headings and RDA principles.
  • Experience using an ILS such as Polaris.
  • Experience with MarcEdit preferred.
  • Knowledge of public library services and operations.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 185 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for up to 5 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to read small print.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, phone, fax, and other office equipment.
