 Makerspace Program Specialist - (220000KT)

 The University of Maryland Baltimore Community Engagement Center is currently recruiting for a Makerspace Program Specialist. The Makerspace Program Specialist will oversee the Makerspace program with responsibility for organizing and coordinating engaging and robust programming for people of all ages at the UMB Community Engagement Center. This program provides free maker-based technology programs for youth, adults and seniors. The program provides the opportunity for community members to learn new skills and create their own products using 3D printers, vinyl cutters and Cricuts, laser cutters, robots, and other state-of-the-art technology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensures neighbors are safe and productive while in the space. 
  • Assist in the management of the Maker Space programming. Develop and facilitate workshops, meetings, or conferences – coordinate logistics, scheduling, and participant communications. Ensures programs and events are properly staffed. Supports registration and recruitment for programs and events. Works with supervisor to develop program schedules.
  • Assist neighbors in using Makerspace tools, equipment, materials, and software.  Develop and maintain strong relationships with neighbors through active communications including emails, text messages, and phone calls. Addresses any concerns neighbors have with immediate supervisor to formulate a response. Provide routine and non-routine technical advice, problem solving assistance, and answer questions. Interpret program goals and policies and provide administrative support to the program team.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of recruiting plan for program participants, including youth. 
  • Track equipment management, including paperwork, and ensure software, tools, and equipment is working, secured and properly cared for. Manage and organizes  materials, content, equipment, and space to foster a safe, positive, and productive learning environment within the Makerspace.
  • Coordinate schedules and events between Baltimore City James McHenry Recreation Center, James McHenry Elementary/Middle School, UMB Community Engagement staff, and the Digital Harbor Foundation team. 
  • Administer program evaluation components such as surveys, youth logs, portfolios, etc. Collect data and prepare reports on spending and attendance to supervisor to ensure close monitoring of grant dollars and deliverables. Monitors the progress of all Makerspace programs.
  • Document work being done in youth programs is documented via blog posts and/or shared resources. 
  • Identify and document systems, procedures, and organizational structures to support the work done by staff and youth. 
  • Maintain relationships with peer organizations, schools, funders, and external stakeholders through personal communication and collaborative outreach. 
  • Research, evaluate, and propose new technology tools and resources to solve problems or enhance the program. Participate in research on educational topics and best practices. Identifies external vendors to provide programming and other supports to strengthen the Maker Space programs.
  • Manage the expansion of the Maker Space within the James McHenry Rec Center as needed.
  • Develops an annual plan for Makerspace programming and monitor the progress of the plan
  • Supervise volunteers and other support staff. Provide training and coaching to support staff and volunteers’ professional development.
  • Conduct trainings and coordinates/facilitates meetings with various partners including Baltimore City Schools and Baltimore City Government.
  • Conduct risk management planning and risk identification are done. Provide support in developing a response plan and controls to minimize risk to neighbors.
  • Monitor vendor scope compliance and provides support and direction as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze program financial statements, expenditures, and budgets for management or outside agencies.
  • Conduct quality planning, quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

  

Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience adminstrative or program coordination experience. 
Preferred Experience: Experience in managing and facilitating STEM programming. 
Other: Related experience to program may be substituted for education. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to operate and troublesheet 3D printers, vinyl cutters, laser printers, cricket machines and other equipment. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Hiring Range: Low to high $50,000s; commensurate with education and experience.
