Under the general direction of a Center Manager (I/II) or Practice Coordinator, performs the administrative and clinical support tasks necessary for efficient center operations to ensure high quality client services and support, informed consent, client education and counseling, effective clinical support, efficient client flow, and a professional health care environment.
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Patient Care
1. Makes health center appointments, including appropriate financial and insurance eligibility screening.
2. Conducts verbal registration including appropriate financial and insurance eligibility screening.
3. Provides direct patient care service in all the health center specific areas as appropriate to scope of services with adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and Clinical Workflow guidelines and Medical Standards and Guidelines.
4. Correctly enters patient information into Electronic Practice Management (EPM) system and Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Maintains documentation of all patient registration and patient care activities provided with adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and Clinical Workflow guidelines and Medical Standards and Guidelines.
5. Provide empathetic, non-judgmental, non-directive educational counseling sessions to clients.  Review with and give to patient all PPM education sheets concerning their visit/services/procedures and contraceptive choices. Provide information for assessment of STI risks, pregnancy and contraceptive options consistent with patient’s value system.
6. Ensure informed consent via information and education about the medical procedures, requested/required laboratory tests, and methods of contraception to assure understanding of risks and complications.  Assure that patient is firm in decision to receive services from PPM, including medical procedures/examinations, medications and testing.  Obtain and witness all necessary consents.  Document patient’s decisions on chart.
7. Performs venipuncture and associated lab work.
8. Prepares exam room with appropriate supplies for examination and cleans room.
9. Administer/dispense medications to patients per clinician’s written orders and as allowed by PPM/State/Medical Board regulations.
10. Offer community referrals and resources to patients.
11. Routes and files incoming laboratory reports appropriately.
12. Prepares daily lab samples for transfer to appropriate lab(s), maintains electronic lab log.
13. Perform daily/periodic quality assurance activities.
14. Cleans instruments, exam rooms, lab area, and autoclave as assigned.
 
Customer Service
 15. Demonstrates PPM customer service standards.
16. Greets clients politely and promptly and provides clients with correct information for registration and check-out.
17. Provides patients with opportunity to provide feedback through patient surveys and reviews.
 
Health Center Operations
18. Contributes to achieving health center productivity goals.
19. Adhere to affiliate goals on internal and external customer service, wait time in clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
20. Prepares for next day appointments (confirmation calls, insurance verification).
21. Solicits donations from patients per PPM guidelines.
22. Attend in-services, staff meetings and staff development activities as requested.
23. Works with volunteers/interns as applicable.
24. Travel to other Planned Parenthood affiliate Health Center’s to provide coverage as needed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Minimum Required:
1.    High school diploma or GED with medical assisting certificate; OR Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program;
2.    Plus one (1) year experience in PP clinical setting;
3.    OR Education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of experience working in a healthcare setting performing back or front office medical assistant duties.
4.    Demonstrated ability to take on additional assignments.
5.    Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
