- Description
The Pratt Library is accepting applications for a Custodial Worker II for the Facilities Department.
The Custodial Worker II participates with other custodial workers in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and surrounding grounds. Work involves no supervisory responsibilities.
Employees in this class work on a rotating shift basis and call-back hours in emergencies. Work is primarily in building interiors where there are no hazardous conditions; however, incumbents may occasionally be exposed to inclement weather conditions when working on surrounding grounds. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
The Custodial Worker II reports to a Custodial Worker supervisor.- Summary of Duties
- The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.Receives and accounts for supplies and materials.
Assists with setup and tear down of meeting spaces for programs.
On the interior of buildings:- Sweeps, mops, dusts, scrubs, waxes, polishes, buffs, and operates hand and power cleaning tools.
- Vacuums carpets; cleans woodwork, windows, walls, furniture, and restrooms.
- Moves furniture and equipment; collects and removes trash.
On the exterior of buildings:- Cuts and trims grass and shrubs, sweeps sidewalks, and removes litter, snow, and ice.
- Assists staff in loading and unloading of library materials to and from delivery trucks.
Will need to drive to various locations.
Performs related duties as assigned. - Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of the eighth grade and two years of experience in cleaning and custodial work.Ability to stand, lift, reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, and walk on a regular basis. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to operate and maintain non-complex hand and power cleaning tools and equipment. Knowledge of the contemporary methods, materials and techniques of cleaning and custodial work. Reading skills necessary for interpreting basic written instructions and label warnings. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Ability to follow directions. Ability to work rotating shifts and call back hours during emergencies.
- Desired Qualifications
A valid Class C Maryland State drivers license is required.

Physical Examination
Those under final consideration for appointment must pass a job-related physical examination by the City.
Drug & Alcohol Testing
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Position of Trust
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
