The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. The School has enrolled 400 students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.

The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts. The SEED School is centered around its character values: respect, responsibility, perseverance, integrity, compassion, gratitude and growth. The SEED School staff are in partnership with parents, families, and communities to guide and support student success. The School follows a typical academic school year calendar.

SUMMARY

Under the leadership of the Director of Student Support Services, the Restorative Coordinator will work with middle and high school students to ensure their success in a college preparatory program. The Restorative Coordinator is responsible for working directly with students, faculty, and staff to establish and maintain a culture of positive student behavior as well as meet all school goals and student achievement targets. The Restorative Coordinator will work to meet the needs of a diverse student population; maintain contact and communication with parents, Student Life and Academic staff; The Restorative Coordinator supports the work related to establishing a sense of community and belonging through restorative practices for the SEED community.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide on-going training of restorative practices within grade level and school wide.
  • Provide ongoing Professional Development with staff with guidance from The Director of Student Support.
  • Spend time in classrooms/Dorms to build relationships with students and teachers.
  • Organize school data to inform staff of positive trends in school culture.
  • Circulate throughout the building to build and foster relationships with students and staff.
  • Use peace circles to build a sense of community
  • Communicate with the community about the restorative work being done on campus
  • Facilitates team meetings with identified students’ teachers, counselors and family members for the purpose of creating behavioral plans
  • Develops, implements and monitors restorative programming (i.e. restorative center, training, observations, calendar events.)
  • Demonstrates and articulate high expectations for student behavior and achievement outlined in SEED MD Code of Conduct
  • Facilitate restorative conference and mediations as needed
  • Conduct individual and group sessions with students to build positive relationships and promote a sense of community and belonging.

Staff Development

  • Develops and leads training and workshops related to strategies that focus on reducing problem behavior and increasing appropriate behavior
  • Collaborates with the Director of Academics, Student Life and Student Support to identify staff needing additional support. Schedule and provide the appropriate training and workshops for staff
  • Provides support via observation and feedback to identified faculty throughout the school year
  • Demonstrates and articulate high expectations for student behavior and achievement outlined in SEED MD Code of Conduct

Outreach:

  • Serves as a community liaison for our students and families regarding conflict resolution
  • Serves as a consultant to administrators, teachers, parents and community stakeholders
  • Performing other duties deemed necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent at building rapport with adults and students
  • Experience and/or training in restorative practices and behavior intervention strategies
  • Superior conflict resolution skills
  • Organized, logic-based, detail-driven work style
  • Solid verbal and written communication abilities
  • Comfortable and effective when interacting and communicate with parents and individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Must have the ability to manage complex issues creatively and effectively
  • Bachelor degree required. Master’s degree in education or other equivalent work experience preferred
  • Experience and/or training in behavior intervention strategies
  • Experience in delivering faculty and staff training
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Internet savvy and skilled with technology
