Baltimore Tree Trust (BTT), the leading urban forestry nonprofit organization in Baltimore City, seeks a full-time Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement to join its Remington-based team. 

Established in 2008, BTT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to enhance and protect Baltimore City’s urban tree canopy through strategic planting initiatives, broad-based engagement, and local workforce training. Position Description:

The Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement provides leadership, thoughtful strategic direction and planning, meaningful innovation, and a commitment to maintaining a healthy urban forest. The Director is responsible for the design, delivery, and evaluation of programs that fulfill the mission of Baltimore Tree Trust and oversees all community engagement and advocacy programs. The Director ensures the alignment of these programs with urban forestry needs in Baltimore through effective planning, communication, evaluation, leadership, and collaboration. The Director reports to the CEO and is part of the Baltimore Tree Trust senior leadership team.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

Community Engagement

● Develop a community engagement strategy and manage the direct engagement of partners.

● Support marketing and communication operations to highlight the Baltimore Tree Trust.

● Enhance volunteer tree planting program to support spring and fall operations.

● Develop a community volunteer urban forestry training program.

● Work with the Development Department to coordinate engagement events.

Advocacy Strategy

● Inform and educate elected officials, community leaders, and opinion leaders about the importance

of a healthy urban tree canopy.

● Support the creation of tree-friendly policies and practices.

● Advocate for adequate urban forestry funding to support the Department of Recreation & Parks.

Management

● Provide leadership support to the Communications and Outreach team.

● Issue engagement assignments to Project Coordinators.

● Oversee duties assigned to administrative support related to advocacy and engagement.


Qualifications

● Bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent experience), with a minimum of five years' experience

in contributing at the leadership level to a successful Advocacy & Community Engagement

Department.

● Strong management skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail required.

● Excellent oral/written communication skills.

● Experience developing strategic plans and communicating program vision.

● Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and

experiences.

● Ability to receive and give supportive feedback to foster equity and inclusion in working

relationships.

● Ability to recognize, nurture, and learn from strengths in co-workers.

● Having the flexibility to accomplish job responsibilities in several work environments, whether it

be from home, on the road, or in an office.

Compensation:

Starting at $75,000, plus benefits

BTT offers a comprehensive benefits package to include: 20 vacation days, 10 sick days, health, vision,

dental, life insurance, and a tax-deferred retirement plan.
