Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a  Family Services Coordinator who will be responsible for organizing, implementing, and tracking program activities within the Health and Family and Community Partnership service areas. The incumbent works in partnership with education and disabilities team members, recruits and enrolls children and develops and implements Individualized Family Partnership agreements with parents. Acts as community liaison for the program. Plans family activities and promotes family engagement.

Catholic Charities Head Start of Baltimore City is a child and family development program targeted to low-income families in southwest Baltimore City, for their children to be well prepared when entering kindergarten and thus more successful in school and in life.

 

 JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish productive collaborative relationships with parents/caregivers. Convey messages that are respectful, patient, relaxed and demonstrate an interest in the child and family. All interactions will help children and families feel valuable, competent, and cared for and should demonstrate positive guidance and collaboration.
  • Work with parents and staff to evaluate existing programs to determine needs, opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to management. Participates in the Annual Assessment and completion of PIR and submits reports of component activities to the Director, FSC Supervisor and Administrative Assistant.
  • Link the child and the family into an on-going health system and sets up preliminary screenings (physicals, immunizations, and dental checkup) for each child entering the program. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to family values. Arrange for transportation to and from appointments as needed.
  • Assist with the organization and oversight of the procedures for program recruitment in conjunction with the ERSEA Coordinator.
  • Organize and implement parent training and support group activities based on identified needs. Serves as instructor for designated training sessions and activities.
  • Establish and maintains updated individual health records on Head Start children following regulations and established guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Family Services Coordinator I (433000) – Associates degree in a human service or related field.
  • Family Services Coordinator II (433200) - Bachelor’s degree in a human service or related field.
  • Family Services Coordinator III (433300) – Master’s in Human Services or related field.
  • Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

 

REQUIRMENTS & ABILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to: direct the work of others; facilitate meetings; relate effectively with a diverse socioeconomic individuals and groups; model professional responsibility and personal integrity and function in an environment of site-based management.
  • Must be willing and able to accompany the children and parents on field trips and to actively participate with them in other activities.
  • Must remain flexible to the needs of the program including being available for evening meetings as needed.
  • Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede driver’s ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The position requires intermittent periods of standing, reaching, bending, walking, stooping, and sitting. Must have the ability to move freely throughout the building including climbing stairs in those buildings where there isn’t an elevator and during home visits.
  • Must also have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. irregularly and have visual and hearing acuity and clear speech sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job effectively.
