Full Job Description

Position Summary: The Offsite Adoption Coordinator serves as secondary contact and coordinator for all offsite adoptions. The Coordinator is responsible for promoting adoptions, handling the offsite adoption process and events, and providing counsel and support to customers who adopt from BARCS to ensure the adoption is successful. Employees in this position are also responsible for the safety and care of all animals at offsite locations and safely driving the Mobile Adoption Vehicle.

A typical work week may include weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as secondary contact and support for all offsite adoption centers and is on call for immediate needs at offsite adoption sites and events
  • Responsible for the entire offsite adoption process including but not limited to; matchmaking, application review, meet and greets, and adoption classes
  • Responsible for providing counseling, support and education to all adopters including, but not limited to; providing general care information, any known history, information on acclimating adopted animal to a new home and new people, training advice, potential health and behavior issues, working cat acclimation and responsible pet ownership
  • Responsible for reviewing adoption applications and communication with potential adopters
  • Works with other shelter staff and volunteers to promote and increase adoptions
  • Responsible for effective communication of shelter policies, practices, and procedures to employees, volunteers, and the general public
  • Responsible for representing BARCS well in the community
  • Provides excellent customer service and education with regards to care of animals and BARCS open adoption process
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment in offsite adoption centers and at event locations
  • Prepares all necessary materials, supplies, and paperwork for adoptions to be completed offsite
  • Oversees cat care and adoptions at offsite adoption centers and works with Volunteer Manager to enhance and maintain the offsite adoption program through recruiting and training volunteers for coverage of care, adoption process, and events
  • Ensures all cats in queue have photos, updated bios, are altered and microchipped prior to entering a store
  • Responsible for the safety and care of animals on the mobile adoption vehicle and at all offsite locations
  • Assists with Adoption Events with the mobile adoption vehicle
  • Handles off-site dog to dog meet and greets as needed
  • Assists with Marketing for events including making digital flyers
  • Assist with all operations necessary to increase overall adoptions
  • Performs related work as required

Qualifications: * Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate.

  • Must provide a valid driver’s license, proof of a good driving record for a minimum of 5 years without any moving violations or points, and be comfortable driving a 26 foot vehicle
  • Must be able to exhibit knowledge and understanding of animal behavior, including those with health and behavioral challenges, and of proper care for animals
  • Must be experienced and comfortable with handling animals
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills including working with potentially difficult customers
  • Must demonstrate strong computer skills and be effective with data entry
  • Ability to modify work schedule to meet BARCS operational needs

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and contribute to a positive working environment
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal directions concerning the care and handling and disposition of animals
  • Ability to work both independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to assess, detect and recognize animal behavior and health that is potentially dangerous for both humans and/or animals
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people
  • Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively
  • Committed to maintaining the BARCS high standard of animal care and mission

Work Conditions:

Work is performed in an animal shelter that operates seven days a week, with exposure to conditions such as dust, wetness, odors, high noise levels, etc. Similar work is also conducted offsite for this position. Work requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, standing most of the day, bending often to interact with animals, lifting animals of all shapes and sizes with an average weight of 50 pounds, lifting bags of litter and food, etc. There is exposure to animals of all kinds including domestic, wildlife, and farm animals. There is potential exposure to: sharp objects, cleaning agents, animal waste, zoonotic diseases, dangerous or fractious animals, and potentially hazardous conditions including the risk of animal scratches and bites. There is also exposure to friendly, loving animals in need of your affection.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
