Everyman Theatre seeks an imaginative, strategic, and pragmatic leader in the role of Director of .

Everyman Theatre is a professional theatre producing a seven-play season featuring a Resident Company of Artists alongside a robust roster of education and community programming serving students from PreK through adults of all ages. The Department is focused on bringing arts education into our local schools, cultivating and welcoming new audiences with intention, enriching the patron experience, and removing barriers to access.

Everyman has maintained education programming and producing, as well as its entire permanent staff, since the start of the pandemic and is committed to building up the administrative infrastructure to adequately support the organization’s growth and to deepen relationships in the community. The Director of will work both internally and externally to build upon existing programs and partnerships to strengthen Everyman’s reach while maintaining focus on the organization’s strategic priorities and core values of people, community, and excellence.

The Director of reports to the Managing Director and works closely with both the Managing Director and Founding Artistic Director to ensure mission-alignment.

As a member of senior management, the Director of will share in the responsibility and leadership of Everyman and will be a regular voice in organizational strategy to maintain, deepen, and develop community and patron engagement.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the effective development, administration, analysis, and performance of all Education Programming; current programs include the flagship High School Matinee program, Classes for All Ages, in-school residencies and workshops, internships & apprenticeships, and Summer Camp.
  • Oversee Community Engagement Programming; current programs include Childcare Matinees, Teen Theatre Nights, Conversations, an Art Gallery curated for each show, and partnerships.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with existing community partners and actively work to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with potential community partners to authentically expand the organization’s meaningful presence in the community we reside in.
  • Build upon relationships in the educational community to enhance Everyman’s reach in schools across the greater Baltimore region.
  • Work across the organization to plan and implement programming collaboratively and effectively, including a safe and supported student experience for on-site programming.
  • Create, track, and effectively manage the department budget, to include both expenses and earned revenue. Provide regular updates to Managing Director on sales, expenses, and strategy.
  • Develop educational curriculum for early childhood, youth, and adult classes across all programs.
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Team to create materials and implement programming that complements productions.
  • Work with Marketing Department to develop and implement a comprehensive and timely strategy for messaging, promoting, and selling programs to include collateral design, advertising mediums and locations, timings, website updates, ticketing, and press opportunities. Actively provide content and updates on programming for social media and organizational messaging opportunities.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and management of education staff and teaching artist roster.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all child protection policies and public safety regulations for both on and off-site programming.
  • Develop structured evaluation tools and evaluate programs on a regular basis for impact, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and the ability to replicate results.
  • Provide documentation and testimonials to Managing Director, Advancement Team, and Board of Directors to support program development, stakeholder conversations, and funding opportunities.
  • Proactively plan for strategic growth in departmental programs. Make recommendations to leadership based on analysis of existing programs, community impact, organization effectiveness, and departmental capacity to drive impact.
  • Demonstrate and represent the work of Everyman CARES (Committee on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Solidarity) by creating external messaging and internal procedures that are grounded in our code of conduct with an eye toward cultivating an anti-racist, healing-oriented organization.

DESIRED SKILLS + EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 years (5 years preferred) of professional experience as a teaching artist, classroom teacher, or in arts education and community engagement. Leadership experience in a nonprofit organization a plus.
  • Experience in developing curriculum, facilitating workshops for diverse student populations, implementing assessments, and collaborating with educators.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective community collaborations and partnerships.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate transparently, respectfully, and effectively across mediums and with audiences of varied cultures and socio-economic backgrounds; public speaking skills a plus.
  • Ability to articulate the value and importance of theatre education in both school and community settings.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets and revenue goals across shifting priorities and circumstances.
  • Knowledge of protocols and procedures for both private and public schools; knowledge of the Baltimore school system a plus.
  • Experience in database and list management in a CRM platform a plus.
  • Relentless curiosity with the ability to productively question existing systems and engage in solution-oriented, creative, and analytical thinking.
  • Positive leader with the ability to manage oneself and others through competing priorities.
  • Passion for arts education, the performing arts, and their role in community building.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

  • The Director of Education and Community Engagement is a full-time exempt position with a starting salary of $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Everyman Theatre provides 100% medical coverage for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance including both full premium coverage and full deductible coverage.
  • 401k plan with pre-tax contribution eligibility and 3% employer match after six months of service.
