The Homeowner Education and Support Coordinator’s (HOESC) primary focus is seamless entry and retention of qualified partner families into the Habitat program, and supporting family partners as they work to meet their program requirements and prepare for home purchase. The HOESC works in collaboration and cooperation with the Homeowner Services Team to ensure seamless delivery of service to partner families in their preparation for homeownership. This is a full-time, exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Company Paid Life AD&D, 403B, Gym Reimbursement, Cell Phone Reimbursement, Mileage Reimbursement. Typical schedule would be Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm but will require some evening and weekend work as necessary.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicant Processing

·        In collaboration and cooperation with the Homeowner Services Outreach and Support Coordinator, process applications submitted by potentially qualified prospective applicants

·        Ensure thorough and complete applications, which may include requesting additional information from applicants where incomplete questionnaires or applications are received

·        Send out required approval, denial or incomplete application letters, as needed

·        Follow through with applicant life cycle: pre-selection, selection and interview processes to ensure a smooth transition into the HFHC program, or referral to other appropriate resources

Manage Financial Updates of Partner Families

·        Serve as liaison and support to this function with other Homeowner Services pre-settlement staff

·        Ensure timely collection of financial documentation from partner families

·        Regularly review financial documentation throughout partner family’s tenure in the program to monitor for consistency in finances

·        Coordinate with Homeowner Finance Coordinator to determine priorities and when additional meetings with families are needed

·         Alert HS leadership immediately of any adverse changes to credit or income of partner families

·        Conduct, at minimum, monthly one-on-one meetings with each family to ensure financial commitments are met

·        Monitor and analyze progress towards meeting any settlement-related milestones and timelines

·        Assist partner families with tackling challenges that come up during the course of their program

·        Track partner family progress regularly in Homeowner Services database per department standards

Homebuyer Education

·        Administer and periodically update Homebuyer Education curriculum that provides families with the information, skills, and coaching that prepares them for homeownership, including basic financial literacy, credit management and budgeting, among others

·        Teach within the Homebuyer Education program and/or coordinate guest speakers, determine meeting times with families, and tracking partner family attendance and mastery of the material

·        Participates in training and/or conducts research to remain current on changes to insurance, personal banking, property tax issues, and other relevant material through training and contact with peer professionals

Settlement Support

·        Guide and monitor families’ finances through regular financial check-ins with the families to go over consistency and/or changes in pay, credit, or any other financial or program obligation through settlement on their home

·        Prepare necessary settlement-related documents and coordinate all pieces of settlement with our internal department staff, partner families, lending and grant partners, as needed

·        Ensure timeline priorities are met in relation to settlement-related goals

·        Stay up-to-date with all required loan origination and settlement-related trainings and compliance

General departmental support

·        Serve as backup to other departmental staff, as needed.

·        Regular attendance at partner family dedications and other homeowner events.

·        Provide backup support for sweat equity management, as needed

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree preferred; 3-5 years of relevant work experience can substitute for a degree in related field

·        Minimum of 1-3 years of work experience in financial literacy, budgeting, case management or related field(s)

·        Bi-lingual preferred- English and Spanish speaking

·        Upbeat, positive, outgoing personable and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups, able to work in a variety of settings to ensure good working relationships across all constituencies

·        Working knowledge of financial literacy, budgeting, and homebuyer readiness, information and materials

·        Comfort and experience providing training and guidance to low-to-moderate income population

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills

·        Demonstrated attention to detail in maintenance of client information

·        Demonstrated ability to work with clients in sensitive, sometimes stressful circumstances

·        Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

·        Comfortable traveling to and working in various locations throughout Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and/or Howard County

·        Community relations experience and working with volunteers

·        Maintain recordkeeping principals and procedures

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

·        Possesses attention to detail, work accuracy and organization

·        Able to work independently and with deadlines; demonstrates flexibility with changing assignment priorities
